On June 9 the Parliament of Madagascar held its first Open Day since 10 years! The event was jointly organized by UNDP and the country’s two parliamentary chambers – the Senate and the National Assembly in the framework of Peacebuilding fund project.

The Open Day was a success, attracting substantial media coverage as well as around 800 visitors who met senators and deputies throughout the various conferences, university debates, round tables and exhibitions organized as part of the event. An important purpose of the event was also to have MPs engage with the younger members of the public and explain to them the functions of the National Assembly and the Senate.

Expressing the intention to build on the success of the event, parliamentarians talked about holding other Open Days in secondary cities outside of the capital in order to bring the parliament closer to the population.
